Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer. Currently I am using mostly rawhide, but have f17 in another computer, because I gave up on having sagemath packaged for f18 (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/SciTech/SAGE), but I have it mostly functional for rawhide, If it crashes at startup (whether or not you see the Mozilla Crash Reporter or another error message) see also Firefox crashes and Crash when starting Firefox.
